Vintage Christmas Recipes From Grandma

Those traditions might be where you go or what you do. For my family, a lot of our favorite traditions start in the kitchen.

Don’t get me wrong, we like to try new things. However, there are certain vintage recipes that must be present at a holiday meal in order for it to be complete.

Some of these recipes are as festive as it gets. Some might not make sense as Christmas recipes to others, but they are regulars at our family holiday celebrations.

My great-grandma used to make these icebox cookies. Then my grandpa was in charge of making them every year for most of my life. Now that he is gone, it is up to us to make them and keep the traditional alive.

Rum Balls
Rumor has it that my great-grandma once made rum balls strong enough to blow the lid off of a leaded crystal bowl! These are still my husband's favorite.

Fudge Dipped Pecan Crescent Cookies
This recipe is from Maw-Maw. You can roll them in powdered sugar if you don't want to dip them. You can also make them into balls if you don't want to shape them.

Kolacky With Cream Cheese Dough
These yummy cookies are a must have treat in my husband's family. We usually use apricot or mixed berry filling, but there are lots of options you could try. My family fell in love with them too. So, now we need to make multiple batches!

Caramelitas
This recipe actually came from an aunt, not a grandma. However, it is still an absolute favorite and people go nuts for them every year. If I didn't make a batch, people would revolt!

Party Ryes
Party ryes might seem like an odd addition to this list, but my family usually gets together for games on Christmas afternoon. These little pizza like appetizers are a staple of that gathering. We do the big meal on Christmas Eve and then soups and appetizers on Christmas.

  1. Love your recipes. Accurate & interesting. Haven’t had any flops. Appreciate you always using normal ingredients so I’m not looking all over to find an ingredient required.
