If you are looking for a simple and delicious candy to make, these classic cream cheese mints are just the thing. They are creamy, sweet, and have a nice pop of mint flavor. This batch is ready for Christmas, but you can make them any color for any occasion.

These simple mints are easy to make and really tasty. They only take 5 simple ingredients and can be made up to a couple of weeks ahead of time.
So, they would make a fabulous addition to your dessert table for a variety of events. As far as homemade candy recipes go, it doesn’t get much easier than this!

Growing up, these cream cheese mints were a fixture at wedding receptions. In the week leading up to a wedding, the women in the family would get together and make a ton of cream cheese mints for the reception.
You might also find them being served at baby shower and bridal showers. They are really versatile because you can make them any colors you would like.

If you have fun shaped candy molds, that just adds to the charm. I had some vintage metal candy molds for the holidays, but I have seen sheets of old plastic molds in all kinds of themes.
Just roll the balls of candy in granulated sugar and press them into the mold. The sugar keeps them from sticking, so you should be able to pull it right back out.

Pro tip: You don’t have to use the mint extract. You can flavor these candies with other flavors if desired. I have made a batch of orange flavored cream cheese candies and pressed them into flower shaped molds to decorate a cake before. They are much tastier than fondant and easy to make!
While the molds are fun, if you are looking to crank the mints out quickly, just roll the candy into small ball and press them down with a fork that has been dipped in powdered sugar. This is a quick and easy way to give them a nice look while also increasing the surface area to help them set up faster.
How to Store Cream Cheese Mints:
After the mints have had a chance to sit out for a while to set up, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For longer storage, you can freeze them for several months.
If you freeze the mints, feel free to snack on one or two straight from the fridge. However, you will want to defrost them in the fridge overnight if you are going to serve them in bulk.

Date balls are another old-fashioned candy that is pretty easy to make. There is just something so nostalgic about the fruity little candies.
For something dipped in chocolate, try making some Martha Washington candies. The centers are creamy and flavored with cherries, coconut, and pecans.
Fantasy fudge is another Christmastime must. The fudge recipe has marshmallow fluff inside and has been a favorite for generations.

Cream Cheese Mints
Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 2 Tablespoons salted butter softened
- 8 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- food coloring & granulated sugar optional
Instructions
- Beat the butter until smooth and lump free. Add the cream cheese and beat until combined and fluffy.
- Add 4 cups of powdered sugar and mix until combined.
- Stir in the peppermint extract and vanilla.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of powdered sugar and mix until combined. The mixture should be stiff and not sticky. If it is still sticky, add a little bit more powdered sugar until it has a playdough consistency.
- If desired, divide the cream cheese mint mixture into several small bowls and dye them various colors with food coloring gel.
- For round mints, roll about a teaspoon of the candy between your palms to form a ball. Place on a sheet of wax paper. Dip the tines of a fork in powdered sugar and press slightly into the top to form a disk.
- For molded mints, roll an appropriate amount of the candy in a bowl of granulated sugar. Press into the mold and then remove and place on a sheet of wax paper to set up.
- Allow the mints to dry out at room temperature for several hours before putting in an airtight container for storage. When storing, place a sheet of wax paper between the layers of mints in the container.
