Punch glass filled with creamy old-fashioned coffee punch topped with small scoops of chocolate and vanilla ice cream, fresh whipped cream, and chocolate shavings.

There is something about a punch bowl that makes a party more fun. This classic coffee punch is just the thing to put in your punch bowl when you need a little pick-me-up with your punch.

It is perfect for bridal showers and baby showers. I can also envision it at a bible study, book club meeting, or anytime you need a little something special.

People just love coffee flavored recipes. It is fun to have a little bit of that coffee shop flavor at home.

You might as well have some cards with the recipe ready to go (or the link ready!) because you are going to be asked for the recipe. It is every bit as good as it sounds.

We have a lot of juice and soda based punch recipes that use sherbet as the “ice” to keep it cold and add flavor. This coffee based punch uses chocolate and vanilla ice cream instead.

Just scoop the ice cream in shortly before your guests arrive. It will keep it cold and slowly melt, making the punch even better as it goes.

Tips and Tricks

If you have a large gathering and a big punch bowl, you can easily double this recipe.

To save the step of making and cooling coffee, pick up a jug of cold brew coffee from the grocery store.

You can use decaf coffee if you don’t want the caffeine buzz.

Lighten it up

For a slightly less rich and decadent punch, use half and half or whole milk in the punch rather than heavy cream.

You can also adjust the coffee to cream ratio to match your tastes. This is your punch. Make it your way!

For a fun adult beverage, feel free to spike the punch bowl. Kahlua would be lovely, and so would Bailey’s Irish cream.

You could even use Irish whiskey for an Irish coffee style punch.

Take it up a notch:

If you want a bit more chocolate in the mix, use chocolate whipped cream on top. Or go whole hog and make a batch of mocha whipped cream.

I made this for a baby shower, and it was a hit!! I had several people ask for the recipe at the end of the party. I did have some Kailua on the side for anyone that wanted to ‘spike’ their punch. I used Splenda instead of real sugar, and put cinnamon on top instead of the chocolate shavings and it was still great.

    1. I am so glad it was a hit! Having the Kalua on the side is a great option and cinnamon on top sounds wonderful!
