This pea soup mix in a jar features split peas, pearled barley, lentils and veggies. The resulting soup is filling and nutritious and takes almost no effort. Make some soup mix for your pantry or give it away as an edible gift.

Most of our giftable “in a jar recipes” so far have been on the sweet side. There have been muffins, pancakes, cookies, and even coffee drinks.
However, there are plenty of homemade mixes that you can make that are savory. This yummy split pea soup is a great example of that.
It is hard to beat a bowl of hot soup on a cold day. This mix will make it so that you can have that experience whenever you want with very little thought or effort.
The mix only takes a couple of minutes to make and you get a ton. Make sure to get a big enough bowl so that you can stir it without making a mess.
Otherwise, all you have to do is dump the ingredients in and give them a mix. Once everything is combined, transfer the mixture to an airtight container.

It makes about 10 cups of mix. I used two quart jars and a pint jar to store mine, but you could put it all in a larger container if you want to.
You could also make 5 pint jars if you are giving them as a gift. You can add a jar of corn muffin mix if you want, to help round out the meal.

When it is time to make the soup, all you have to add is broth. I used chicken broth, but you could use vegetable broth if you want to make a vegan soup.
If you aren’t vegan and happen to have some leftover chicken or ham, that would be a great addition to the soup. Just dice it and toss it in near the end of the cook time.
I like a good chunky soup, but you could blend the soup if you prefer it to be smooth. There are so many wonderful ways to make this your own.
The best part is that with a bunch of soup mix in the pantry you will have plenty of opportunities to try it different ways. If you make something extra fabulous, be sure to tell me about it in the comments. That way I can make it too!
