These take the classic ham and cheese sandwich to a fun new level! Make the honey mustard dipping sauce to bring it all together. Whether you need a fun new lunch idea or a hearty savory snack, these will surely do the trick!

These fun rolls are like a hot ham and cheese sandwich in a fun pinwheel form. They are great served warm, but are also fabulous cold or at room temperature. Put a few in a lunchbox along with a little dipping sauce for a fun treat. Or you could whip some up today and put the extras in the freezer for another day. The possibilities are endless!
There are just some foods and situations that go together. Are you going to a movie? Of course you have to get some popcorn.
If you’re at a ball game, you need to have peanuts and hot dogs. “Get ‘yer hot dog!” Christmas requires cookies, Thanksgiving requires a turkey and cold lunches need ham and cheese sandwiches.
I think those are all rules somewhere, you know in the giant book of food rules according to Carlee if nothing else.
It just seems like a ham and cheese sandwich in a lunchbox is a right of passage. In fact, my husband still packs a ham and cheese sandwich in his lunchbox almost every day.
Sometimes he’ll ask for some turkey or I’ll surprise him with pastrami. But the vast majority of time it is the good ol’ ham and cheese on white bread with a bit of mayo and mustard. He is definitely a creature of habit!
On the other hand, I want to play to much with my food. So the idea of a ham and cheese sandwich every day is enough to drive me crazy!
But that doesn’t mean that ham and cheese is bad, I just want to change it up every now and then. These ham and cheese rolls are a way to get that same basic flavor but in a much more fun package.

Can you imagine your kid opening their lunch expecting to see and sandwich and finding these rolls instead? To make it even more fun, include some honey mustard dipping sauce. After all, a dipping sauce can make anything more fun!
If hot lunch is more your kids’ speed, that’s ok. There are plenty of chances to make them anyway. They make for a fun dinner fresh from the oven.
They are a great snack as well. You can make a bunch at once and freeze them for after school snacks. That way getting over the homework hump is a little easier.

I made these rolls with my whole wheat pizza dough recipe, I thought the honey and wheat would be a great compliment to the ham and cheddar. However you could certainly do the same with sourdough pizza crust or your favorite pizza dough recipe.
If the idea of baking with yeast scares you, you really should give it a try. It is fun!
If that’s a hurdle you aren’t interested in jumping right now, feel free to pick up some frozen bread dough or pizza dough at the grocery store. Then you can have these made in no time!
What were your favorite cold lunches when you were in school? And if you still pack a lunch now what do you bring with you?

Ham and Cheese Rolls with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 recipe pizza crust, I used my whole wheat pizza crust
- 8 oz your favorite cheese, shredded. I used white cheddar
- 8 oz thin sliced ham
- 3 Tablespoons mustard
- 3 Tablespoons melted butter
- 2/3 cups mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup mustard
- 2-3 Tablespoons honey
Instructions:
- Prepare your pizza crust according to your recipe directions. After the first proof, roll into a large rectangle.
- Spread mustard over the dough and then sprinkle with cheese. Top with ham slices and roll up like a you would cinnamon rolls.
- Cut into about 20 thin slices and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Cover and allow to rise until about doubled in size and preheat your oven to 400 F.
- Gently brush the rolls with the melted butter then bake for 15-20 minutes.
- Stir together all ingredients and then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Notes:
2. This is also a great dipping sauce for things like chicken finger and popcorn chicken!
