Homemade Brown Gravy Mix
Ingredients
Beef Gravy Mix
- 1½ cup all-purpose flour
- ⅓ cup beef bouillon powder
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
To Make The Gravy
- 2 Tablespoons gravy mix
- 2 Tablespoons butter or pan drippings
- 1 cup water
Instructions
Make The Mix
- In a small bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well.1½ cup all-purpose flour, ⅓ cup beef bouillon powder, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Store in a spice bottle, mason jar, or other sealed container, in the pantry, for up to 6 months. Store in a well sealed container in the freezer for up to a year.
Make The Gravy
- Melt the butter (or other fat) in a small saucepan over medium heat.2 Tablespoons butter
- Add the gravy mix to the melted butter and stir constantly until the mix has absorbed all the melted fat. Cook for about 1 minute longer, continuing to stir, to cook off the flour flavor.2 Tablespoons gravy mix
- Slowly add in about a third of the water, then pause and whisk to combine the mixture before slowly adding the rest of the water.1 cup water
- Constantly stir until the mixture starts to bubble and thicken. (I remove it from the heat once it lightly coats the back of a spoon).
- Taste the gravy and add more seasoning if you want to.
- The gravy will continue to thicken as it cools. Use immediately or store in an airtight container, in the fridge, for up to 3 days.
