If you love Oreos, this is the recipe for you. It is such a perfect snack for movie night, road trips, parties, and more.

For the uninitiated, puppy chow is Chex cereal that is coated in some sort of melted chocolate and coated in powdered sugar. It is a legendary treat in the Midwest.

It goes by the name Muddy Buddies if you buy a bag of it at a convenience store, but everyone I know calls it puppy chow. (Just in case it isn’t clear, this is a treat for people not puppies.)

Now, we love the original chocolate and peanut butter puppy chow. However, it is so fun to play with the flavors.

Cookie butter puppy chow was a new favorite last year and not to long ago we made some birthday cake puppy chow. They are both fabulous, but this new Oreo puppy chow recipe has quickly climbed the charts of favorite snackable desserts.

It features some cereal squares coated in chocolate and some coated in white chocolate. You mix them with some Oreo chunks and the combination is fabulous.

The recipe only takes a few minutes to put together. I used one bowl and just melted the white chips first so that I wouldn’t have to wash it in between.

That’s really the only tip I have for you. It’s that easy!

Now what are you waiting for? Make a batch to see for yourself!

Signature that says Enjoy! Carlee.

Total: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12.8 oz rice Chex
  • 12 oz white chocolate chips
  • 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 Tablespoons coconut oil
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 24 Oreos

Instructions

  • In a large microwave safe bowl, melt the 12 oz white chocolate chips and half of the 4 Tablespoons coconut oil coconut oil together using 20-30 second intervals in the microwave.
  • Once the chips can be stirred smooth, add half of the 12.8 oz rice Chex and stir to coat.
  • Transfer the coated cereal to a gallon ziploc bag and add half of the 4 cups powdered sugar. Seal the bag and shake to coat. Set aside.
  • In the same large bowl, melt together the 12 oz semisweet chocolate chips and the remaining coconut oil using 20-30 second intervals in the microwave.
  • Once they can be stirred smooth, coat the remaining cereal. Transfer to a ziploc bag with the other half of the powdered sugar and shake to coat.
  • Lightly crush the 24 Oreos.
  • Stir everything together in a large bowl. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

Notes

You can use butter or shortening in place of the coconut oil. You can also omit it altogether, but it helps to make coating the cereal easier.
