You are just three ingredients away from the most fabulous chocolate dipped peanut butter chocolate cookie truffles. These candies are easy to make and super delicious!
If you are a fan of chocolate and peanut butter together, you are going to love these fun cookie truffles. They are just like the classic Oreo balls we all know and love, but they are made with peanut butter instead of cream cheese.
That makes them even better than the original Oreo truffles. One bite and you are going to fall in love!
My family goes nuts for Oreo balls, they are a must make during the holiday season. The only problem is they have to be refrigerated due to the cream cheese.
While that isn’t necessarily an issue normally, it does make them hard to include on cookie trays to be delivered. Not to mention the cookie trays we bring to family tend to sit out all day long!
So I thought why not replace the cream cheese with peanut butter and see what happens? I’ll tell you what happens is absolutely delicious!
These babies disappeared and everyone kept telling me how much better they are than the originals. So put these on your must make list for sure!
Advantages of using peanut butter instead of cream cheese in Oreo balls
They taste like peanut butter! The chocolate and peanut butter combo is super delicious!
They are more shelf stable. They can sit out without worrying about the cream cheese. Of course you don’t want them to get too warm, they can still melt!
No waiting for the cream cheese to soften!
Tips for making peanut butter chocolate cookie truffles
You can eyeball the size of the truffles if you’d like. It doesn’t actually matter how big they are.
However, I used a small cookie scoop to make them uniform. I scooped them onto wax paper and then gently rolled them between my hands to make sure they were round and slightly compacted.
Freeze the cookie balls before you try to dip them. This helps them hold together while you are dipping them in the chocolate.
I used a fork to dip them in the chocolate. Gently cover them in chocolate, then pull them out of the chocolate by placing it on the end of the tines.
Gently shake off the excess chocolate and then place on the wax paper to set. Immediately sprinkle with chopped peanuts or sprinkles if desired.
Alternatively, you could insert a toothpick into the frozen cookie ball and dip the ball into chocolate the same way you do buckeyes. This makes dipping easy, just quickly cover the tooth pick hole before the chocolate sets.

I have been looking for an Oreo Cookie Pop recipe that can be stored at room temperature to give to friends as Christmas treats. I also want to try the sweetened condensed milk recipe as you have indicated that this can be stored room temperature as well. Do you think the consistency would be okay for putting on a stick before dipping? I have made the cream cheese version many times but this is not a safe recipe unless they can be refrigerated. Many thanks, Linda

@Carlee, Thank you so much for your quick response. I plan to chill them before dipping. One more question. Your recipe states that the Oreo balls made with sweetened condensed milk are safe to leave unrefrigerated, but my Google results say that unbaked goods containing sweetened condensed milk need to be refrigerated. Can you confirm? I was really hoping they could stay at room temperature for at least a day so I could severe them at Christmas and give as gifts. I certainly don't want to make anyone sick. Thanks again for sharing your great recipes and guidance. Linda C.

I would think you could put them on a stick. I would make sure they are good and cold before you dip them, though.

The flavor was good, but the texture was oddly grainy,.even though I used a food processor to finely grind the cookies and used very peanut butter. Hoping they're better once I freeze them for a bit & dip them in chocolate melts. 🤞

The cookie crumbs should soften a bit after they've had a chance to sit for a bit. 😊
