M&M Cookie Mix In A Jar

This M&M cookie mix in a jar is a great way to shortcut making cookies. Make up several jars to keep in your pantry or give them as gifts to teachers, neighbors, family and friends. Either way they are cute and the resulting cookies are delicious.

There are so many reasons that making your own mixes is a great idea. Whether you are looking for a hostess gift or a little something to pass out at Christmas time, there is no bad time for cookies.

I have even seen sports teams make cookie in a jar recipes as a fundraiser. If you have a whole team putting them together, you can whip up a bunch in no time!

The best part is, you can buy the ingredients in bulk and make a bunch of jars at once if you want to. Make a bunch of cute tags and you are ready to go!

Assembling the jars is super simple. I like to stir the baking powder, baking soda, and salt into the flour. That reduces the risk of getting a clump in the actual cookies later.

Other than that, you just layer things up in whatever order looks nice to you. Use M&Ms that match the holidays.

Of course the regular ones always look great, but you can use the red and green ones at Christmas or the orange and black ones for Halloween, they even make red white and blue ones for the 4th of July. To me, all of those holidays are cookie holidays!

If you are giving the jars as gifts, you can use cute ribbons or even add some festive fabric over the lid. If you are keeping them for your pantry, you are done.

Just make sure to include the baking instructions. Write them on a little tag if you want or print out the tags I whipped up.

Filling The Jars For Pretty Presentation

  • Using wide mouth jars makes both loading them and emptying them a little bit easier.
  • Canning funnels usually only cost a couple of dollars and they can make getting everything in the jar so much easier.
  • For the most distinct layers, carefully add the chunkier ingredients like M&Ms and chocolate chips. If you pour them in too fast, they can sink into the softer layers like flour.

The Resulting M&M Cookies

When you are ready to bake the cookies, all you have to do is melt a little bit of butter, crack a couple of eggs and add a splash of vanilla. The dough comes together with a bowl and spatula, so it is super easy to work with.

Using a medium cookie scoop, the mix makes 2 dozen delicious cookies. They have a nice crispy edge and gooey center.

Of course they are fabulous still warm from the oven, but they also store well. They really are tasty cookies.

What are we waiting for? Let’s make some cookie mix in a jar!

M&M Cookie Mix In A Jar

Author: Carlee
Servings: 24 cookies
Make your own M&M cookie mix in a jar. These jars are great for gifting (think teacher or neighbor gifts or a sweet hostess gift), or make them for yourself and keep them in your pantry for easy cookies later. Turning the mix into cookies is super simple and they taste great!

Total: 5 minutes

Ingredients

Cookie Mix

  • 1⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup M&Ms
  • cup light brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

For Baking

Instructions

Assembling the Jar

  • In a small bowl, stir together the 1⅔ cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon baking soda, and ¼ teaspoon salt. Pour into the bottom of a clean quart jar. Gently wiggle the jar a bit to make sure there is an even layer of the flour mixture.
  • Gently layer the 1 cup M&Ms on top of the flour layer. Try not to pour them in too quickly, as this may cause them to sink into the flour layer more.
  • Continue to layer the other ingredients on top. I did ⅓ cup light brown sugar, then ½ cup granulated sugar, then ½ cup chocolate chips. You can do whatever order you think looks nice.
  • Put the lid on the jar and tie a tag with the baking instructions to it.

Baking the Cookies

  • Melt the ½ cup butter in a medium or large microwave safe bowl. Allow to cool until just warm.
  • Add the 2 large eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
  • Pour in the contents of the quart jar. Stir until combined.
  • Chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350℉.
  • Use a medium cookie scoop to portion out about 1½ Tablespoons of dough. Place cookie dough about 2 inches apart on a cookie pan.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until baked to your liking. Allow to cool on the pan for a couple of minutes, then move to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

These homemade mixes can be kept in the pantry for 6-9 months. So you can make a bunch ahead of time if you would like.
You can use all M&M or all chocolate chips if you want to. I like having a bit of color, but also like using some mini chocolate chips to distribute chocolate throughout.
