Making homemade brownie mix means you can have the convenience of a box mix without the preservatives. When you are ready to bake them, you only need to add three simple ingredients and bake them.

And this mix makes a nice big 9×13 inch pan of brownies, that’s right it is family sized. So there is plenty of goodness to go around.

The best part is the mix only takes a few minutes to put together. All it takes are a few pantry staples like cocoa powder, flour, sugar, salt and baking powder.

You can stop there or add up to a cup of mix ins. Mini chocolate chips were a big hit, so were Reese’s Pieces.

You can add nuts, m&m’s, white chocolate chips or whatever you like. Bits of Andes mints, caramel chips or peanut butter chips would be great as well.

Now spoon the powder into a quart jar or plastic bag. Add the baking instructions and pop it in the pantry for when a craving strikes.

Gifting Your Mix

Homemade edible gifts are perfect for friends, family and coworkers. They are great for hostess gifts as well.

This brownie mix is a perfect small token of appreciation. Put it in a jar, tie it with a cute bow and add a tag with baking instructions.

That is all it takes to make someone smile. Plus they will get to think of you when they bake and enjoy them.

Either keep the stir in simple or choose something you know the recipient will like. To make it a more substantial gift, include a pan, oven mitts, and/or a whisk.

Baking the Brownies

In order to turn the mix into brownies, there is very little effort or ingredients needed. Just beat a few eggs and some vanilla together.

Add a cup of oil or melted butter and stir it all together. We have made it both ways and both are delicious.

The texture is slightly different, but both are tasty. Melted butter creates a sturdier brownie.

Using oil makes a richer fudgier brownie. They are soft and almost a bit gooey even when fully baked.

The edges crisp but the center stays super soft. To my surprise, this won my husband over entirely.

He went nuts over the brownies and kept looking for more. Luckily we made 4 mixes, so I was able to keep his brownie needs satiated.
