If you are craving something cold, creamy, and sweet but don’t want to feel guilty about indulging too much, this homemade frozen yogurt recipe is for you. It is made from natural ingredients and tastes amazing.

The best part is the base only takes a couple of minutes to put together. Just stir together some yogurt, cream, honey, and vanilla.

After a nice churn, it is ready to freeze. Then scoop it to your heart’s content

What kind of yogurt should I use?

You can use whatever yogurt you would like, but the different varieties will affect the final texture. For the smoothest, creaminess fro-yo use a plain whole milk Greek yogurt.

You can certainly use light or low-fat yogurt if that’s what you prefer, but a lower fat content will result in a more solid frozen yogurt.

We have also made this recipe with homemade goat’s milk yogurt and it was delicious. It reminded us of the honey goat cheese we get sometimes.

If you want to use flavored yogurt instead of plain, that works too. If you use a sweetened fruity yogurt, you can cut the amount of honey you add to the recipe in half.

In the end, the ratio of sugar, fat, and water will determine the final consistency of your homemade fro-yo. Feel free to use this recipe as a guide and tinker until you find your favorite combination.

Carlee’s Tips and Tricks

If using an ice cream maker that requires you to freeze the bowl, do so at least a full day in advance. If it’s not fully frozen, it will be hard to get your froyo to freeze.

If you want to add small chunks of fruit, chocolate chips or other mix-ins, do so at the end of the churning process. At that point the frozen yogurt will be thick enough to suspend the chunks.

If your froyo is hard to scoop, let it sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes and try again. You can try increasing the fat or sugar content next time for a softer texture.

Easy Flavor Additions

If you want chocolate frozen yogurt, stir in a few Tablespoons of cocoa powder. You may want to add an extra Tablespoon or two of sweetener as well to counteract the bitter cocoa.

Or try adding a half cup of peanut butter to the mix. It will add great flavor and will help you to get an extra creamy texture.

You can also try adding instant coffee to the mix. Cinnamon would be another great addition.

Adding a mashed banana not only adds flavor, but helps you to get a rich creamy texture too. Plus it adds additional natural sweetness to the mix.
