Sweet Cream Cheese Filled Crescent Rolls

Breakfast is served and it’s delicious! These fun cream cheese filled crescent rolls are almost like an inside out cinnamon roll with the frosting on the inside.

Crescent rolls stuffed with lightly sweetened cream cheese and a bit of cinnamon are such a wonderful treat. They are great for breakfast with a cup of coffee or make them as a light dessert, either way they are fabulous.

The best part is they are super easy to put together.  You can be enjoying a flaky pastry in almost no time.

I am a big fan of flaky breakfast pastries with fruit, cream cheese or custardy filling. We have a local bakery that is famous for them.

Their danishes take hours of rising and adding layers of butter between layers of dough. They are absolutely worth every bit of time and effort.

However I am not at a point in my life where spending that much time and effort on breakfast makes sense. And I’m not always in the mood (or dressed appropriately) to venture out into the public first thing in the morning.

So making a rough approximation at home is the way to go. These are much less fancy, but super delicious nonetheless.

I would be perfectly comfortable whipping some up for overnight house guests to wake up to. They are worth sitting down and enjoying but also perfectly easy to grab on the go!

These come together fast and easy.  It is a nice way to have a quick, warm, sweet breakfast without it being to heavy or filling.

It would also be a nice way to end a day if you just want something easy and sweet.  There are only a few ingredients and chances are you already have most of them.

Optional stir ins:

A little cinnamon stirred into the cream cheese adds a little cinnamon roll flare. Or sprinkle the dough with cinnamon sugar before rolling it around the cream cheese for a stuffed cinnamon roll vibe.

Try adding just a bit of fruit preserves to the cream cheese. Strawberries and cream danishes anyone? Yes please!

Mini chocolate chips would be another fun add in. Holy stuffed crescent cannoli!

There are so many great ways you could adjust this recipe to make them extra fun! What are you going to try first?

What can I use if I don’t have a tube of crescent roll dough?

You can make your own crescent roll dough! It is easy and a batch makes enough to replace 4 tubes of dough. Freeze the extra to use in recipes later.

Make Them Savory

To make savory stuffed crescent rolls, just leave out the powdered sugar and vanilla and add shredded cheese and your favorite seasonings instead. Imagine a bit of cheddar and garlic powder inside a crescent to dip in your soup!

  1. I make something similar but use flavored cream cheese like blueberry. And I just lay out the crescent dough, spread the cream cheese over all, roll up the dough cinnamon roll style, cut & bake. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
