Pink velvet ice cream is creamy with just a hint of chocolate and a swirl of cream cheese frosting. If you like red velvet cake you are going to love this recipe for homemade pink velvet ice cream.
This super creamy pink ice cream has a hint of buttermilk, a bit of cocoa and lots of yummm. It is perfect for Valentine’s Day or any day.
This recipe was originally shared in 2016. At the time MiMi had an ice cream maker but I didn’t.
I got a new ice cream maker for Christmas, so I’ve been having fun updating her old posts. It gives me a chance to take new pictures and retest the recipes.
Plus it means we get to eat lots of yummy homemade ice cream. I am hearing no complaints about that part from my taste testers!

How Much Ice Cream Does it Make?
This recipe makes a ton of ice cream. My 2 quart ice cream maker was full as can be.
When you add the frosting swirl, it grows even more. This batch filled most of a loaf pan plus about 2/3 of a quart container. So it’s lots of yumminess!
Along with the pink velvet ice cream, I made some chocolate sour cream cookies decorated with buttercream rosettes. They were so pretty together and made for such a fun treat!
Once you fall in love with making homemade ice cream, the flavor possibilities are endless. You should also try making fruity blueberry ice cream, or something different like maple bacon ice cream.

Pink Velvet Ice Cream with Cream Cheese Frosting Swirl
Equipment
Ingredients
Ice Cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 Tablespoon vinegar
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring gel
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups heavy cream
Cream Cheese Frosting Swirl
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
Instructions
Ice Cream
- Put a tablespoon of vinegar in a cup with your whole milk and stir. Set aside for a few minutes as it becomes buttermilk.1 cup whole milk, 1 Tablespoon vinegar
- In a food processor or mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the cocoa powder and sugar and mix until lump free. Be sure the scrape the sides of the bowl.8 ounces cream cheese, ¼ cup granulated sugar, 2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- Slowly drizzle in the sweetened condensed milk as you mix until fully combined. Add the milk mixture and stir until incorporated.14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- Blend in the food coloring and vanilla.1 teaspoon red food coloring gel, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Mix in the heavy cream, until just combined. You don’t want to add too much air at this point.2 cups heavy cream
- Store in your refrigerator until ready to churn it.
- Freeze as directed in your ice cream maker. While it churns, go ahead and make the cream cheese frosting swirl.
Swirl
- Beat cream cheese until smooth.8 oz cream cheese
- Add vanilla extract and mix again. Slowly add the powdered sugar and mix until completely incorporated.1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1½ cups powdered sugar
- When your ice cream is finished in the ice cream maker put half of it into your container. Dollop half of the cream cheese icing over it and swirl with a knife. Gently spread the rest of your ice cream over that. Dollop with remaining icing and swirl the top half with a knife.
- Store in your freezer until ready to serve.
