It is hard to beat a scoop of homemade ice cream, especially when it is flavored with delicious chocolate hazelnut spread. This recipe produces all of the texture and flavor you love in the simplest possible way.

Whether you are looking to just enjoy a scoop of ice cream or you want the base to build a sundae, this is a great recipe to try. It has just the right balance of chocolate flavor and creamy base.

Some ice cream recipes include eggs to help emulsify the mixture and add body. But using eggs either involves cooking the mixture into a custard or trusting raw eggs.

We have an egg free vanilla ice cream recipe that we absolutely love. So we have been using that as the foundation for our homemade ice cream recipes for years.

Luckily adding Nutella to the mixture helps do some of the work eggs do in other recipes anyway. So you still get all of that richness and a great smooth texture without the worry.

All you have to do is combine the sugar and hazelnut spread to help break up the Nutella. Then slowly add the milk to help loosen it up even more.

Once the Nutella is dissolved in the milk, go ahead and stir in the cream.

That is it! This simple ice cream base is ready to go into the machine in just a few minutes.

My only real tip is to get the Nutella and dissolved in the milk before adding the cream. If you add all of the cold liquids at once, you are more likely to end up with streaks of Nutella.

It will still taste amazing, but won’t have the nice uniform chocolate color and flavor. So if you get in a hurry, don’t despair.

If you really want to play up the chocolate flavor, feel free to add 1/4 teaspoon of coffee extract to give it a boost. Add even more if you want a mocha flavored ice cream.

You could add chopped hazelnuts for crunch and more nutty flavor. Or freeze little dollops of Nutella and mix them in when the ice cream is almost done churning.
