I’ll be honest, I had never heard of blackberry dumplings until one of you asked for a recipe. So, I did some looking around and it turns out I have been missing out.

If you come here often, you know that our house had a thornless blackberry thicket near the garage when we bought it. We get huge berries and usually quite a few of them.

So we are no strangers to delicious blackberry recipes. There are a lot of things about this recipe that are similar to blackberry cobbler.

However, instead of baking it to get a golden top, you boil bits of the dough in blackberry syrup. It makes them pillowy, soft, and delicious.

LD and I both thought it reminded us of pancakes with blackberry sauce in a lot of ways. But the way the vanilla ice cream melted into the dumplings and copious blackberry sauce was something altogether different and wonderful.

Choosing a Pan

You will want a nice big saucepan that has a lid for this recipe. I used a 3 quart saucepan and I wouldn’t want to use anything smaller without reducing the size of the recipe.

If you want to make half of the recipe, just use the button in the recipe card. The math will be done for you!

As LD and I were eating this, we were thinking about what other kinds of fruit we could make it with. We loved it so much, we want more!

We decided just about any kind of berry would work, or even a mix of berries. I almost think you could do peaches as well.

Please let me know if you make other fruits and dumplings and be sure to make this recipe. It is definitely on our list to make a few more times before we run out of berries.
