Pillowy dumplings steam in a simple blackberry sauce for a dessert that is delicious. This treat is simple to make and is great with fresh or frozen berries. Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to really make it shine.
Put the 4 cups blackberries, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, 2 cups water, and ¼ teaspoon grated nutmeg in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium high heat.
While the syrup is coming to a boil, make the dumpling batter by stirring together the 1¾ cups all-purpose flour, ⅓ cup granulated sugar, 1½ teaspoons baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt in a medium bowl.
Add the ¾ cup milk and stir to combine. The dough should be thick, but still a bit sticky.
Once the syrup has come to a full boil, reduce the heat to medium to keep at a low boil.
Drop in bits of the dumpling dough, about a Tablespoon at a time.
Once all of the dough has been added to the pot, cover and steam for about 6 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
