This chocolate chip cookie dough sheet cake takes the one of my favorite guilty pleasures and turns it into a Texas style sheet cake. You are going to love it!

Texas sheet cakes are always a great way to feed a crowd. The batter comes together quickly and a warm icing gets poured over when you are finished.
Chocolate may be the original flavor, but you don’t have to limit yourself to that. This cookie dough inspired version is delicious and perfect for so many kinds of gatherings.

Get out your saucepan and whisk out, that’s all it takes to make this delicious treat. It will be perfect for your parties, BBQs, potlucks and more!
With our big game gathering coming up, I have been going through my Texas sheet cake recipes. They are such a fun and easy way to feed a crowd.
Because we are having quite a few people over and I have a lot of items I’d like to make, I thought a sheet cake would make a perfect dessert. They come together quickly and there’s not much fuss to them.

MiMi went on a sheet cake making roll in the early days of this site, so there are a lot of fun and creative recipes to choose from. I stumbled upon this chocolate chip cookie dough inspired version and I thought it was a perfect time to spiff up the post a bit and share it with you again.
It is still a favorite and tastes even better than it sounds.
MiMi’s rules on what makes it a “Texas” sheet cake
You know they say they do everything bigger in Texas, so the bigger pan is a start of what makes a cake a Texas sheet cake. Rather than being baked in a 9×13″ pan most are baked in a half sheet pan or jelly roll pan which is closer to 13×18″.
In addition to their larger size, MiMi thinks the cooking method is what makes Texas vs. not. For her to consider to consider it a Texas sheet cake, the batter must be made in a saucepan.

The beauty of the saucepan method is how easy it is. The butter melts so there is no need for softening it first.
Plus you don’t need a mixer to bring it all together. It is quick and easy to just stir with a whisk.
The icing is very similar. It is super easy because it is also made in a saucepan on the stove top.
You do want to make sure to use a whisk here to keep from getting powdered sugar lumps. But once the frosting is ready you just pour it over the warm cake.

That takes away the pressure of having to smooth on a nice looking frosting. It basically does it for you!
Top with sprinkles or chocolate chips and you have a nice cake! If you have a sheet pan with a lid, you are in really good shape to take the cake wherever it needs to go.
More Fun Sheet Cake Recipes
Of course you need to make the original chocolate Texas sheet cake if you haven’t. That is the classic and it is hard to beat.
For summer, we like making lemon Texas sheet cake. Or for a fun twist Arnold Palmer Texas sheet cake has a sweet tea base and lemon icing.
Or try a vanilla Texas sheet cake for something different. It tastes a lot like wedding cake, but in a much less fancy form.

Dang… This sounds great! The guys at work have been feeling left out lately on my baking. At least with a sheet cake, there is enough my husband won't mind when he loses half of it. Or will he? Lol… either way, I have to try this!
The guys will love this. If you husband misses the rest of the cake you can always make another! 😉
Congratulations Carlee, this yummy post was in the TOP SIX most clicked (or licked) on Fridays Blog Booster Party #24. It will be FEATURED on Friday.
