BLT Salad

This BLT salad allows you to enjoy all of the flavors you love in the classic sandwich in salad form. It is easy to put together and makes a great lunch, side dish, or eat it as a simple summer dinner.

Bowl of BLT salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, bacon, and croutons tossed in a creamy homemade dressing.

BLT sandwiches are one of those simple things that are so much better than they have any right to be. The bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes are perfect between two pieces of toast.

The problem is, we tend to overfill the sandwich and add a few extras. That is when things start to get messy.

Eating it as a salad takes the mess out of it. You can add whatever you want without having to worry about everything sliding out of the sandwich.

Plus it becomes an acceptable side dish that goes with just about anything. Try serving it with burgers, grilled chicken, or some pork chops.

Possible Additions

Just like the sandwich, use this recipe as a base. You can add all kinds of goodies if you want to make it even more hearty.

Here are some more topping ideas to get you started:

  1. Eggs: We love adding fried eggs to our BLTs. A hard boiled egg would be great in this salad.
  2. Avocado: Add avocado cubes at the last minute to keep them from oxidizing and turning brown.
  3. Croutons: You can add your favorite croutons. Or, in a pinch just make a couple of pieces of toast and cut them into chunks.
  4. Onions: You could dice some red onion or sweet onion and add it in if you want. Or quick pickle the onions to soften both the texture and flavor a bit.
  5. Grilled chicken: turn it into a dinner salad by adding some diced chicken.

Carlee’s Tips and Tricks

Cook the bacon extra crispy. It crumbles easier that way and adds great texture to the salad.

I like to cook my bacon in the oven. Try laying it out on a rimmed sheet pan and baking it at 400F for 10-15 minutes.

Use your favorite lettuce. Romaine works. So does leaf lettuce from the garden or mixed greens. You can even toss in some spinach if you want to.

You can make the dressing ahead of time or make extra to use throughout the week. Just give the jar a shake before you use it.

For a lighter dressing, use Greek yogurt in place of some of the mayonnaise.

Feel free to try different kinds of cheese. Cheddar would also be great or try blue cheese if you are a fan.

Alright, lets get to the recipe. This is a salad you are going to want to make on repeat!
