Small bowl of apple salad with snickers and fluffy vanilla pudding dressing next to serving bowl with more snickers salad inside.

Apple snickers salad is the perfect dish as we transition into fall. It features lots of fresh apples, but is still cool and creamy

It is a salad in the way that all of the midwestern salads that aren’t really salads are. While most of the ingredients are typically associated with dessert, the name makes it allowed as a side dish in some circles.

Us Midwesterners are funny like that. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

This salad is kind of like an apple fluff salad. Instead of using marshmallows like most fluffs, it uses pieces of Snickers candy bars instead.

The mix of caramel, peanuts, and chocolate goes so well with the apples. Add the vanilla pudding and Cool Whip dressing, and you are really in business.

So you can serve it as a fruit salad if you would like. Or serve it as a no bake dessert that has some fresh fruit in it for added health. 😉

Tips, Tricks, and Substitutions

If you are making this salad ahead of time, go ahead and toss the apples in lemon juice or white soda before you use them. That will help to slow down the oxidation or browning process and will keep the apples looking nice for longer.

For more crunch and peanut flavor, add some chopped peanuts to the mixture.

If you would like, drizzle some caramel sauce over the finished salad. It makes it look nice and adds great flavor.

Make sure you use instant pudding. Cook and serve pudding won’t thicken without being cooked.

You can try using other flavors of pudding mix. White chocolate or butterscotch pudding would be delicious.

If you need to avoid peanuts, you can use a nut free candy bar instead. 3 Musketeers would be good, or try Twix or even chopped Rolos.

More Recipes to Try

If you like apple salads, try making apple salad with honey yogurt dressing. It is another way to enjoy fresh apples in a creamy dressing, but is a bit more holy than this recipe.

You may also like my great-grandma’s frozen fruit salad. It is a vintage classic that is extra creamy and refreshing.

Or try a cherry cheesecake fluff salad for another recipe that is dessert, but can pass as a salad if you squint hard enough.

Notes

If you would prefer to use fresh whipping cream, add 1 cup of heavy whipping cream to the pudding mixture and beat until fluffy. Just be aware that Cool Whip will keep its texture for longer.
A drizzle of caramel sauce and a handful of chopped peanuts also make for a great garnish.
Try using different flavors of pudding or different candy bars for fun and easy twists on this salad.
