Make a bunch of jars of homemade malt cookie mix for gifts this holiday season. They make great edible gifts. Make some extra jars to keep in your pantry, too. Then you can make easy cookies whenever you want!
Layer ¼ cup granulated sugar and ¼ cup cocoa powder in the bottom of a quart jar.
Add the ½ cup light brown sugar and press down with a spoon to pack a bit.
Layer on the ⅓ cup malted milk powder.
In a small bowl, stir together the 1¼ cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and ½ teaspoon salt. Transfer the mixture to the jar.
Put 1 cup chocolate chips on top of the other ingredients and cap the jar tightly. Write the baking instructions on a tag and attach to the jar. Store at room temperature for up to a couple of months or freeze for up to a year.
To Make the Cookies
In a medium bowl, stir together the melted ½ cup butter, 1 large egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Add the contents of the jar and stir until you have a uniform dough. Chill for at least 1 hour.
Preheat the oven to 350℉.
Scoop rounded Tablespoons of dough (or a medium cookie scoop) onto a cookie sheet leaving 2 inches between cookies.
Bake for about 10 minutes. Cool on the cookie sheet for about 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
