Get all of the flavor of pizza in these little pizza bite appetizers. Loaded with sausage, pizza sauce, and cheese, they are sure to be a hit. The recipe makes a big batch, but you can freeze them for later. It's just wins all the way around! Make a batch for game night, holidays, parties, or tailgates.
Put 1 pound bulk pork sausage, 1 pound bulk hot sausage, and 1 pound bulk Italian sausage, in a large skillet. Brown over medium to medium-high heat, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
Drain any excess grease from the pan.
Stir in 1 16 oz jar Cheez Whiz and 1 15 oz can pizza sauce until you have a uniform mixture. Remove from the heat.
Arrange slices of the cocktail rye bread on baking sheets. Transfer about 1 Tablespoon of the sausage mixture onto each slice of bread. (I find a small cookie scoop helpful for this step.)
Sprinkle a little bit of mozzarella cheese on top of each pizza snack.
Bake for 5-10 minutes or until the cheese is bubble and browned to your liking.
Freezing instructions:
Place the sheet pan filled with prepped pizza bite into the freezer for about an hour. Once they are firm, go ahead and stack them in a freezer container or freezer bags.
Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When ready to bake, you can bake them from frozen. Just preheat the oven and arrange as many pizza snacks on a baking pan as you would like. Bake them for about 10 minutes or until cooked to your liking.
