If you are a fan of chocolate and peanut butter together, you are going to love these fun cookie truffles. They are just like the classic Oreo balls we all know and love, but they are made with peanut butter instead of cream cheese.  That makes them even better than the original.  One bite and you are going to fall in love!

My family goes nuts for Oreo balls, they are a must make during the holiday season. The only problem is they have to be refrigerated due to the cream cheese.

While that isn’t necessarily an issue normally, it does make them hard to include on cookie trays to be delivered.  Not to mention the cookie trays we bring to family tend to sit out all day long!

So I thought why not replace the cream cheese with peanut butter and see what happens? I’ll tell you what happens is absolutely delicious!

These babies disappeared and everyone kept telling me how much better they are than the originals.  So put these on your must make list for sure!

Advantages of using peanut butter instead of cream cheese in Oreo balls

They taste like peanut butter! The chocolate and peanut butter combo is super delicious!

They are more shelf stable.  They can sit out without worrying about the cream cheese.  Of course you don’t want them to get too warm, they can still melt!

No waiting for the cream cheese to soften!

Tips for making peanut butter chocolate cookie truffles

You can eyeball the size of the truffles if you’d like.  It doesn’t actually matter how big they are.

However, I used a small cookie scoop to make them uniform.  I scooped them onto wax paper and then gently rolled them between my hands to make sure they were round and slightly compacted.

Freeze the cookie balls before you try to dip them.  This helps them hold together while you are dipping them in the chocolate.

I used a fork to dip them in the chocolate.  Gently cover them in chocolate, then pull them out of the chocolate by placing it on the end of the tines.

Gently shake off the excess chocolate and then place on the wax paper to set.  Immediately sprinkle with chopped peanuts or sprinkles if desired.

Alternatively, you could insert a toothpick into the frozen cookie ball and dip the ball into chocolate the same way you do buckeyes. This makes dipping easy, just quickly cover the tooth pick hole before the chocolate sets.

Turning peanut butter chocolate cookie balls into cute acorns for fall

These fun acorns are perfect for a fall treat.  Start with the same chocolate peanut butter mixture, just make shape them into a slightly oblong shape instead of a ball.

One end should taper and the other end should be a little bit flatter to mimic an acorn shape.  Insert a small pretzel stick into the flat end to mimic the stem.

Now freeze the acorns.  Once they are frozen, the pretzels act as a dipping handle for the chocolate.

Use sprinkles or chopped peanuts to make the acorn cap.  Just sprinkle them around the top of the cookie truffle.

Enjoy your cute desserts!
