This super easy dump and mix snack is perfect for so many occasions.  It’s an unexpected mix of some of your favorite movie snacks.

It’s sweet and salty and easy to take a handful and pop it in your mouth. Just beware, if you have a community bowl everyone will be digging for their favorites.

I like to have snacks on the tables when we host parties. Especially if the party starts an hour or two before we plan to eat.

As anyone who has attended a shindig at our house can attest, I don’t want people getting, being or leaving hungry.

In fact an instruction on most invites is “bring your appetite.”  I think by now people usually know to do just that, but it warrants a reminder just in case.

Little Dude went through a phase where there had to be candy on the table to make it a party. I think it started after I had extra ring pops and candy necklaces strewn across the tables for his pirate party.

For the next party we hosted he couldn’t wait to distribute the candy on the tables. The problem was, we didn’t have any.

After a mad dash to the store, the tables were appropriately decorated with his favorite candies. He is mostly over it now, but we still tend to “decorate” with food.

Most of our favorite snack mixes include peanuts in one form or another. Everyone goes crazy over puppy chow and even moreso over brownie batter puppy chow.

My peanut butter maple snack mix is a fun twist on a standard trail mix and Jenny’s smacky delicious mix is like a cereal version of caramel corn. All have nuts or peanut butter.

We had a kiddo with a peanut allergy at our last get together so I was scratching my head a bit as to what to make that would be safe for him.

I had a package of red vines that I was planning to make into straws for the punch and that’s when it hit me. Those ends would be fun in a snack mix!

For some reason the red vines had me thinking of movie theater candy. A movie theater inspired snack mix has to have popcorn.

Red and white plastic popcorn containers filled with snack mix made from pretzels, popcorn, and candies, ready to eat.

Regular popcorn with butter and salt would be a great base. Kettle corn would be fun too if you want you mix to be on the sweeter side.

From there toss in your favorite movie theater snacks. I added pretzels for more salty crunch.

The red vine ends added sweet chew. I also poured in a bunch of yogurt covered raisins.  The chocolate version would be delicious too.

It felt like it needed something more, so I tossed in some skittles we had in the pantry. You could easily use m&ms or snow caps or something instead.

That is the best part about a mix like this, it is so easy to customize. Just use your favorite treats or those of who your serving and the whole lot will be gone before you know it.

It was fun to watch the bowls of snack mix disappear at the party. Some people were eating it as a mix by the handful.

Others were picking through to get to their favorite parts. Luckily each person had their own favorite, so it worked out well!

What are your favorite kinds of snack mix? What would you put in your movie theater mix?
