If you like cookies and cream ice cream, you are going to love this tasty Oreo banana nice cream. It is cool, creamy and chocolaty. Even better, it is made in just a few minutes with very few ingredients and it is a perfect way to use up those ripe bananas!

Ice cream is one of our favorite summer treats, but we all know we should not have it too often. As tasty as it is, it is not particularly good for the old wasteline.

Luckily there are options to get that frozen creamy feeling without all the cream. Nice cream is one of the easiest ways to do that.

Ingredients for making Oreo nice cream, frozen bananas, vanilla, milk and Oreos.

Not only is it lower in calories and fat that its ice cream cousin, but it is a perfect way to use up those extra overripe bananas. So it is a win-win!

Plus making nice cream is a great treat for hot weather. You can cool down, enjoy a sweet treat and the is no cooking or baking involved so it doesn’t heat up the kitchen!

Storing ripe bananas

It seems like every time we buy a bunch of bananas there are a few that linger on the counter until they are past their prime. Luckily there are so many great ways to use them.

Of course you can use them as they are to bake up a loaf of banana bread or whip up a banana cake. We also use them for banana sheet cakes, baked oatmeal, and even banana bread cookies.

But sometimes you just don’t feel like baking right away. Luckily ripe bananas freeze well.

Peel the bananas and put them on a sheet pan to freeze. After a couple of hours, remove them from the sheet pan and put them in a freezer bag or other airtight storage container.

Put them back in the freezer until you are ready to use them. Then defrost them for use in baked goods or use frozen for nice cream!

For easier use in smoothies and nice cream later, you can cut the bananas into large slices or chunks before freezing them. Much like whole bananas, you can freeze them on a pan first to keep them from sticking together.

Then transfer the frozen banana chunks to a bag for longer storage. When you want to make a smoothie or other treat you can just grab a few chunks and go!

Making this dairy free

We used dairy milk in the making of this recipe because we aren’t dairy free. However you can very easily make this nice cream dairy free and vegan.

Just use your favorite non-dairy milk or leave it out all together. Adding a little liquid helps the food processor get through the frozen bananas, but it is not completely necessary.

Using almond milk, oatmeal milk, soy-milk or whatever you like is perfectly acceptable and will do the same job. If you use vanilla milk, you can get away with skipping the vanilla and make it a three ingredient recipe!
